Take Back The Night is seeking presenters for upcoming TBTN Global Virtual Events. If you can speak to any of the following, or have an idea for an additional topic, we welcome your application.

  1. Personal survivor story
  2. Poetry or spoken word – especially on topics of empowerment, healing, etc.
  3. Artistic expression – original songs, artistic works, etc.
  4. Grounding exercise – to open and/or close the Event

Katie Koestner is the first woman in the United States to speak out nationally and publicly as the victim of campus “date” rape at age 18. Katie has been featured on the cover of TIME Magazine, The Oprah Winfrey Show, NBC Nightly News, CNBC Talk Live, CNN, Larry King Live, Good Morning America, Later Today, MSNBC, Entertainment Tonight and other national television programs. Katie is the subject of an HBO movie and has lectured for over 5000 schools and organizations in North America and around the world.

Priya Varadarajan (She/Her)

FOUNDER, DURGA INDIA

Priya Varadarajan is the Founder of Durga, a citizen sector organization that builds gender justice in public spaces across Bangalore, India. Durga employs innovative approaches to co-owning public spaces by citizens, communities and governments, so that women’s safety is no longer a woman’s problem alone. Prior to joining Co-Impact, Priya anchored Gender Justice and Rights to Persons with Disabilities at the Azim Premji Foundation (APF), one of the largest philanthropies in India. Priya holds a Masters in Women and Gender Studies and is also a trained Accountant (Chartered Accountant). She expresses her feminist side through her writing, including for online magazines.

Bella Kwok is currently a freshman at Temple University, majoring in Political Science and minoring in Women’s studies. Bella’s history of advocacy for the anti-sexual violence movement inspired her to join TBTN, where she is currently the Newsletter Editor and Campus Outreach Director. She hopes to be a lawyer specializing in sexual violence cases and offering survivors free legal help.

Austin Anozie is a Canadian-born Nigerian, raised in Victoria BC. Moved from home at a young age to pursue an education at SFU and a career in film and television and is currently residing in Vancouver BC. He is a rising talent in the film industry with appearance in shows such as Superman And Lois, The Order, and Midnight Sun. 

Margaret Hoelzer (She/Her)

PUBLIC SPEAKER & OLYMPIC MEDALIST

Margaret Hoelzer is a Double Olympian and three-time Olympic Medalist in Swimming, as well as a former World Record holder. At the 2008 Beijing Olympics, she was awarded Silver medals in the 200m Backstroke and the 400m Medley Relay. She also holds a Bronze medal in the 100m Backstroke. Originally from Huntsville Alabama, Margaret attended Auburn University where she was a 22-time All-American and a 6-time National Champion.  Margaret is an accomplished public speaker and vocal advocate for victims of sexual abuse, where she shares her personal experience as a survivor of sexual abuse and focuses on lighting the path toward healing for other victims, their families and friends.

SCHOOL CAPTAIN, READING SCHOOL

Daniyal Vemuri is the School Captain of Reading School, an all-boys grammar school in Berkshire, England. Daniyal currently holds an offer to study Philosophy, Politics and Economics at the University of Oxford beginning in October. He became interested in the field of sexual violence prevention after hearing the experiences of peers in the local area, and is passionate about promoting greater awareness of misogyny and sexual violence in single-sex settings.

CHAPTER OUTREACH COORDINATOR, TAKE BACK THE NIGHT

Ray currently attends Temple University where she is majoring in English with a concentration in creative writing, minoring in sociology and gender studies. Growing up surrounded by activism, Ray was inspired to start “Student Activists Against Sexual Assault” (SAASA) at her university, upon discovering the absence of any advocacy group on her campus. She hopes to one day attend law school, and work to enhance and promote proper restorative justice.

POET & SPOKEN WORD ARTIST

The award-winning poet and storyteller, Ebony Stewart, has a powerful voice and a drive to make an impact. She is a woman of many talents, as she wears the hat of an art-tivist and social worker. In addition to being an international touring poet and performance artist, Ebony is also a published author and a Woman of the World Slam Champion. Her work speaks to the Black experience, with emphasis on gender, sexuality, womanhood, and race, with the hopes to be relatable, remove shame, heal minds, encourage dialogue, and inspire folks in marginalized communities.

CHIEF OF MISSION, INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATION FOR MIGRATION (IOM)

Laurent M.J. de Boeck is currently the Chief of Mission of IOM to the Federal State of Nigeria. He joined IOM in 1996, and has since served in top assignments in Cairo, Arab Republic of Egypt; Sana’a, Republic of Yemen; Geneva; Democratic Republic of the Congo; and other regions. In his vast and varied experience, he has also been the Director of the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Observatory on Migration, advising the Secretary General of the ACP Group of States, covering the 79 ACP countries. He obtained a degree in Public and International Affairs, Diplomacy and International Economy, as well as a degree in Social and Economic Sciences, from the University of Louvain-la-Neuve in the Kingdom of Belgium and the University of Tilburg in the Kingdom of The Netherlands.

Karoline Wimmer is a New York born half-Austrian, half-Indian human rights advocate. Having received her formative education in international schools based in Austria, England and Saudi Arabia, Karoline has learned to embrace and value cultural diversity. Karoline has received a Bachelor of Laws in business law from the Vienna University of Economics and Business. Currently, Karoline is pursuing her Master of Laws in human rights at the University of Vienna. As a sexual assault survivor, she strives to help others regain their voice.
