10 Points of Light

What are the 10 Points of Light?

Every April for Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Take Back The Night celebrates 10 diverse communities, campuses, and schools throughout the United States and around the world holding a TBTN Event in support of survivors of sexual violence. These 10 communities serve as Points of Light forming a bright beacon of hope and healing for those who have been harmed.

Our 10 POL’s host empowering speakers, musical performance, speak-outs, poetry slams, walks, runs, yoga events, candlelight vigils, art displays, and more! Each location has its own unique agenda.

Each year our visibility and impact continues to grow.  In the past, some of our locations have had celebrities attend, speak, and perform.

Guide to Being One of the 10 Points of Light

What does it take to be one of the 10 Points of Light?

  • Hold an empowering event of your choosing during the month of April. The actual activity or itinerary is up to you. We only ask that you choose a way to show your support for survivors. Consider these popular options: vigil, walk, yoga, run, bike, speak-out, poetry slam, musical performance.
  • Open your event to the public, if possible. Get as many people as you can to participate.
  • Coordinate with TBTN Headquarters in promoting your event.
  • There is no fundraiser requirement to being one of the 10 Points of Light. However, if you do hold a fundraiser, all funds are donated to Take Back The Night Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charity.
  • Plan to get out the word via social media and live tweet and post about your event. If everyone is comfortable, take photos and videos and post these powerful moments.
  • Your event should be inclusive and welcoming to all people.
