What are TBTN Events?
Take Back The Night Events are held in 1400+ communities throughout the United States and around the world. TBTN has reached 10+ million people in 40+ countries. TBTN Events bring together communities in a powerful and public way to both highlight the problem of sexual violence in all forms and support survivors in their healing process. Positive aspects and outcomes of Events include:
- Uniting diversion groups, clubs, organizations, and businesses around one cause: ending sexual violence
- Raising public awareness of sexual violence as a concern of public health, safety and social justice
- Fomenting improvements in security and safety, laws against sexual violence, and policies to provide trauma-informed legal and medical support for victims
- Celebrating healing as a powerful and possible process through music, vigils, speak-outs, walks, marches, artistic expression, and community support
- Helping survivors know they are not alone
- Educating the community about the various forms and incidences of sexual violence, including trafficking, rape, sexual assault, stalking, dating and domestic abuse, and child sexual abuse
All TBTN Events are powerful expressions of a community’s commitment to ending sexual violence and supporting survivors. The TBTN Foundation offers a planning manual, poems and readings, keynote speakers, banners, t-shirts, and other Event gear.
Take Back The Night’s strength and power stem from the physical bringing together of an entire community to work together on a problem affecting at least 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men. Events evoke compassion, agency and action.
